Joy is an amazingly talented designer, thinker, and team leader! Throughout our 3+ years working together, Joy always brought forth extremely thoughtful and detailed UI/UX design solutions for the project engagements we worked on together. She always strives to lead by example, being extremely organized in her thinking and calculated in her strategy, when presenting to senior leaders and stakeholders. Joy moves quickly and is able to make decisions while also being open to discussion and feedback for quick iteration. I really value her approach to build a quick mock and then iterate over it, because that proves to be very helpful for the broader team. I had the distinct pleasure of attending Joy’s Advanced Interaction Design course at Art Center College of Design and it was an incomparable educational experience. Joy extends her passion for UX into the classroom environment to accelerate her students abilities into that of professional design leaders, by driving them to evolve beyond their own expectations. Joy’s curriculum prepared me to create human-centered design solutions to complex problems by helping me to grow as a systems thinker, and user experience practitioner. Furthermore, Joy’s real-world knowledge of product vision transformed the way I approach design, resulting in the development of a highly successful thesis project, whose caliber as a self authored product is unparalleled to previous studio courses. Joy’s course will undoubtedly remain among my most highly valued learning experiences at Art Center!

She has been highly effective in her timely delivery on a variety of challenges, and also extremely responsive whenever questions arose during implementation. I’m consistently impressed with how Joy spots opportunity for improvement— whether it be in a design or in a process—and doesn’t hesitate to take initiative to execute actionable progress to address them. For example, Joy independently plans series of research studies to stress-test [feature], led cross-office brainstorms with multiple designers to create a scalable framework, and led discussions amongst designers to create joint UX-timelines (to aid visibility and opportunities for collaboration).
Joy is a great listener, she took down notes and asked me questions to get a better understanding of my background in how to better assist me during our session. After my first session with her, she made me realize the importance of knowing what you want to do and what you're passionate about. And how to tailor your portfolio and resume to a particular company or industry you want to intern at.
